These form a caudex and or a swelled up trunk near the base, they call these “Rock figs” as the caudex will actually grow upon and over rocks. They are deciduous trees so in the winter they may or may not drop leaves to conserve energy, DO NOT toss it, just keep watering it roughly every 2-3 weeks during the winter, and in the spring you’ll get a whole fresh set of foliage.
